      Hi All,

I am the new Group Poker Director for bwin.party digital entertainment, the parent company of partypoker among other brands. Today is my third day in the job, but given what’s going on in this thread and our upcoming product release, I think it’s an appropriate time for me to jump in here, introduce myself, respond to one big topic, and share a few other thoughts. I don’t have all the answers you’re looking for yet, but in time you will have them one way or another.

It’s important for me to point out that bwin.party is a publicly-traded company, so there are some restrictions on what I can say about strategy, numbers, product releases and some other topics. Therefore I can’t be completely open about what we’re doing or why, but I do promise to be honest. I also promise an increased presence from my team here in this thread, with improved responsiveness to your questions.

You might not always like what we have to say, but we will participate in the discussion.

About me: I have been working in the online poker business for almost 10 years now (equivalent to 850 years in any other industry). That includes: 1 year in a Marketing & Biz Dev role with CheckNRaisePoker.com (a catastrophe); 2 years as Director of Product Management with Ongame Network (an amazing opportunity); and almost 7 years with what is now The Rational Group in a variety of roles (changing the poker world). There’s a strong contrail of digital artefacts lingering behind me for the curious.

Beyond the CV, the more interesting-for-2p2 poker-specific background is that I grew up playing poker and continue to play recreationally both online & offline. I went from $0.05/.10 mixed games at Gary Wise’s house in North York to the $1/2 games at charity casinos that were popular in Toronto at the time. Years later, when I was building the APPT, I had the chance to play across Asia in some of the most extraordinary circumstances you could imagine – but most of those stories I can only share over drinks. Let’s just say that the myths about Whales Made of Gold were true, at least for a little while, and some of the games were ludicrously juicy. I continue to host occasional home games where such luminaries of the poker world as John Duthie & Lee Jones have graciously taken my money at the kitchen table. I’m “good for the game,” they like to say.

In MTT, I have had only one notable score and am currently ranked 157,340 on the Hendon Mob’s World All Time Money List. It’s a badge I wear with pride, because it was the one time I didn’t start haemorrhaging chips (usually to Neil Channing at WSOPE events) after becoming bored or distracted 12 hours after sitting down at a table (and I have great respect for successful live tournament grinders who do that consistently). My lifetime ROI graph for MTT is like a cliff with a tree on its side, but for cash games more like the rolling plains of Saskatchewan.

Hopefully that establishes at least a modicum of poker credibility here, and that I am capable of a sense of humour.

      Now onto business:

The big news is that we have a major software update being released tomorrow. The game servers will go offline at approximately 2100 EST tonight and come back online some hours later, with the new clients (PC, Mac, Web, iOS & Android) being available shortly thereafter. A press release with lots of detail will hit the wires then, and I’m sure at least a link to that will be posted here within minutes (paging Kevmath).

This new software has been in development for a long time, and the scope of change for players should be profound. The UI (user interface) and UX (user experience) have been modernized, with improved navigation for sophisticated players and significantly less friction for the players who just want to use the ‘Quick Seat’ functionality in our new 1-Click Lobby to play their game type of choice. The goals here have been to make the product more usable for all players, and specifically much easier for new players.

We ALL need to work harder to ensure new players have a good poker experience, and that intent resonates through many aspects of the software. You’ll see this in various new features, such as: Missions; Achievements; Friends; Profile; and other social elements. Rather than me describing them here, I encourage you to check out the software yourself and share feedback here. Regardless of what you have to say, we are eager to hear it.

That said, there is no such thing as Finished Software. This software is the first release after a massive overhaul, and we expect to continually be making improvements over the coming weeks and months based on suggestions from our players and internal teams. There will probably be some bugs, but I’m confident our dev teams will work quickly to resolve any issues.

      Next topic: Vig on withdrawals:

Payment processors charge online gaming companies when players deposit funds in their accounts, and again when they withdraw them. We have traditionally absorbed those transaction costs in our overhead, but changed our policy last month in respect to withdrawals by e-wallet methods only (specifically Neteller, Webmoney & Skrill). We still pay the fee for players funding their accounts, but now ask that players pay the fee when they withdraw using those e-wallets.

When this was first introduced, there was a flat fee + 3%. That is now only 3%.

There are many other payment methods available to players, and the corresponding fees are generally not charged to players making withdrawals (there are some exceptions for wire transfers, etc.). If you look at the cashier in your accounts (which varies by jurisdiction), or contact support, you will be able to see what less-expensive methods are available to you.

      Other topics:

I will ask my poker room team to regularly monitor this thread, and also address some issues recently raised here. They will be far more present, and I will check-in from time-to-time. Expect that to start by the end of next week.

Please do not use this thread for personal support requests, as the nice people at support@partypoker.com are the right channel for that. Also, please do not PM me here as I don’t log-in regularly.

FWIW, I read this thread and many others each morning during my commute, with thanks to Mason Malmuth and Company for providing this great service to the community – particularly the subscribe-by-email function.

      Recruiting:

While I have your attention, note that we are recruiting for several roles within our poker organization. If you are interested, or know people who might be interested (and have appropriate experience), please let them know about these positions and encourage them to apply.

Head of Poker Product Marketing (1622)
      Poker Optimization Manager (1618)
      Poker Product Manager (1291)

Details on these and other positions can be found on the Group's careers website at careers.bwinparty.com. Expect more poker-related roles to be posted there soon.

      Finally

Thank you all for your interest in partypoker. I hope you enjoy playing poker on our new software. And I look forward to helping change the course of our business back towards a path of growth – by working with my team to create a more fun, engaging and compelling experience for poker players.

      Kind regards,

      Jeffrey Haas
