Ungentlemanly winner at the Ladies Event at Borgata

Most states in the USA have laws stating that casinos can't apply sex-based discrimination to poker tournaments. As a result, men have taken part in ladies-only poker tournaments from time to time, or in many cases tried to enter but honored a request from the casino and stayed away. That was not the case at Borgata Poker Open Ladies Event, though, as the title and $20,982 was taken down by Abraham Korotki.

Korotki entered the tournament despite protests from the other players and the casino stuff, saying that he was tired of busting out early in the Borgata Poker Open events. “I hadn’t had enough poker time," he said.

He beat Nicole Rowe heads up for the win after Rowe's A9 failed to beat his pocket tens. Rowe, who is suffering from breast cancer, was disappointed to lose to a man but said, “It doesn’t matter. It was 16 hours of being cancer free, a diversion from my reality.” Rowe was the runner-up at this event already in 2007.

After hearing about Rowe's condition, Korotki showed his more gentlemanly side by pledging to donate part of his winnings to breast cancer research.
